Yes — and we recommend annual sweeping for coastal properties even on light-use fireplaces. Salt-laden air accelerates corrosion of cowls and metal liners, and partial blockages from gull and pigeon nests are more common than inland. We carry replacement cowls where the existing one is obviously corroded.

These are some of our most frequent jobs. Most are unlined brick flues serving open fires that have been adapted for multi-fuel stoves at some point. We sweep, smoke-test, and let you know honestly if the flue is showing its age — sometimes a CCTV inspection is the right next step, sometimes the brickwork is doing fine.
