About Whitley Bay
Whitley Bay's housing is largely Edwardian and interwar, built when the town boomed as a seaside resort. Substantial detached and semi-detached properties dominate, with Victorian terraces concentrated near the seafront and Edwardian villas inland through Monkseaton.
Edwardian and interwar housing in Whitley Bay generally has lined or partially lined flues in better condition than the older Victorian stock further south. Stove conversions are common — many properties have replaced an open fire with a wood-burner in the last 20 years, and the original flue has been retained without full re-lining. That's not necessarily a problem, but it does mean the flue should be CCTV-checked at least once. Coastal exposure is similar to Tynemouth: real but moderate.
